100 Marriage Proposal Ideas

1. Scavenger hunt of memories.
The one proposing can send their loved one on a scavenger hunt of old
memories and end up at a place where they would propose. You can even have
little clues/notes at each point along the scavenger hunt (perhaps have a note or
clue in a little heart shaped box or wrapped up in a small gift). For instance, you
can start at the place where you guys met, then go to a place where you went on
your first date (you can even eat there if it's a restaurant), go to your "special"
place, etc. and then after several of those you can end up at a place where you
will propose to her. It's especially a lot of fun when you have clues and they have
to guess where the next location is and then try to find your next clue hidden
somewhere. This is also a very easy idea to combine with other ideas here, as
well as a very easy one to personalize!
Him: This is a fun marriage proposal idea that is easy to make your own. It can
be very inexpensive (under $25 in most cases), yet it can bring up a lot of old
memories that are special. It's easy to make a day (and night) out of it. It does,
however, require a lot of thinking ahead and planning. Besides picking the
locations out, you also have to go to each location, hide the clues in a place
where they won't be accidentally taken, etc.
Her: This is probably my favorite marriage proposal idea, and although it's
inexpensive, the time and thought that has to be put into it is what makes it so
memorable. Other women would die if they heard a guy setting this one up!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Have a rowboat on the side of a trail and row to a remote area with candles
and a picnic basket.
With this idea, you can take your loved one on a special trail/walk and have a
rowboat (or any boat for that matter) set up along the side. You then take her into
it along with a picnic basket and row to a location somewhere near where you'll
already have candles (unlit at the moment) set up where you guys can enjoy a
nice picnic and look up at the stars if it's in the evening. You can even blindfold
her while you light the candles!
Him: This doesn't require too much planning, but the boat might be hard to come
by unless you own one. You can check into rentals or even buy a cheap
inflatable one, but that wouldn't look as nice as a normal one. Check around and
see what you can do.
Her: If a guy can pull this one off, it would be very romantic. However, I would
personally opt to try to personalize it somehow for her to make it even more
special.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Propose with a Chinese fortune cookie.
This one is pretty self-explanatory. You hide a "will you marry me?" fortune (or
even a pretend fortune of some other kind) inside of a fortune cookie that you
give to your loved one. You can have a special Chinese dinner before with this.
There are several websites that you can buy customized fortune cookies very
cheap.
Him: This is easy to do, but not too sure if it would be special.
Her: This would be okay to do if it was combined with something else, but unless
there's special meaning with all of this, most girls probably wouldn't find it too
special all by itself (doesn't mean some wouldn't, though).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. First date relived.
With this proposal idea, the one proposing would relive their first date together
(same restaurant, same activities, etc.) and then finally propose at the end. This
is also an easy one to combine with others, as perhaps the first restaurant on
your first date could be a good way to end a completely different proposal idea
you had.
Him: This sounds like a classic marriage proposal, very easy to do, and probably
not too expensive. However, it could be a dead giveaway if you weren't too
careful about hiding your intentions.
Her: This can be a very fun experience of reliving old memories, but I'd agree that
if everything was identical and you guys were talking about marriage, it might
become obvious (but that's not always bad!).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. Find a special spot and have a rock, tree, etc. engraved.
With this marriage proposal idea, you can pick out your "special spot" (or find a
romantic spot) and have a nearby tree engraved, or even make a rock or cement
molding engraved (you can find these at any hobby store). The message on it
can either be something like "marry me?" or something like "Tim and Susan,
2006" (or anything else clever that you can think of). When you take her to this
special spot, you can place her near it so she'll look at it and when she looks
back at you, you'll be down on your knees proposing.
Him: For a marriage proposal idea that doesn't require too much planning, this
sounds like a keeper. Not too expensive and not too hard to do.
Her: It for sure would always make that place special to the two of you, and you'd
always be able to see your stone, tree, or whatever else. This could be a great
way to propose and end the evening!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. Have your message outside of a lawn written in candles.
This is pretty self-explanatory - have your marriage proposal written using
candles outside (perhaps at a gazebo, outside a house, or even just in a nice
area) and wait for her to see it.
Him: Very easy to do, but might not have too much substance to it.
Her: This is an okay marriage proposal idea if something more was done to add
to it. By itself, it might not be the most memorable. If you use this idea, I'd try
combining it with a few of the other marriage proposal ideas listed on this site.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7. Propose at a nice vacation spot.
Take your loved one on a weekend getaway or a week-long cruise and propose
to her there. You could even get the hotel or crew involved in your marriage
proposal or let them know ahead of time (you'd be amazed at how they'd
probably go the extra mile for you).
Him: A great way to have fun together, but might be expensive if this vacation
wasn't planned or if you're on a budget.
Her: The marriage proposal would for sure start with some fun memories, but I'd
be sure to add a little more personalization to make it extra special.
8. Propose at a garden or other natural site.
Find a local garden (perhaps a botanical gardens or arboretum or the like) - a
quick search on the internet near your area might land a few good places. They
are already beautiful and romantic.
Him: Very easy to do, and you could turn it into your special place.
Her: There are some very beautiful gardens out there, and with personalizing it
only a little bit more, this could be a great idea!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9. Propose at a movie theater.
You can make a special slide show at pay to have it shown after a movie to
surprise her. You can even invite friends along as a surprise and have them
scattered throughout the theatre until the end. You can propose in person or on
the screen.
Him: It might be more expensive for what it is, and I'm not sure how many women
would really like this.
Her: This is one of those more risky ones where some might find it funny and
romantic but some women might want something more unique.
10. Propose using a waiter with a limo to the restaurant.
With this idea, you'd get your waiter in on it and have him bring out a platter with
the words "marry me?" written with food. You'd make it extra special by reserving
a limo for the night before and after wards.
Him: This sounds like one of the more classic ones. It wouldn't be too hard to get
a waiter or waitress in on it, and even the limo wouldn't be too much for the night.
Her: Like with a lot of these, it sounds like a clever idea, but I'd try to add it to
others or personalize it more.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

11. Propose at a party/holiday in front of guests.
This is straight forward - propose in front of a group of friends, family, or guests at
some type of gathering. This is definitely more for the woman who likes attention
and not too shy of others.
Him: Sounds like an okay idea if you have the right person, and you can
celebrate after wards with everyone!
Her: Definitely something that is only right for some women, but hopefully you
know her enough by now to know if she'd like this.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

12. Have rose petals, or candles, leading on a path to a proposal site.
You can have your loved one follow a path of petals or candles to a romantic
place where you'd propose to her. This can conclude with a romantic dinner, a
great view, or even combine it with a previous idea of leading her to a tree or rock
where you have something engraved.
Him: A great marriage proposal idea to combine with others, and a very romantic
setting.
Her: I'd have to agree that this marriage proposal idea can be added to almost
anything (and guys, this isn't a bad idea for other special occasions or just for the
heck of it!).

13. Propose with a Christmas, Birthday, etc. gift.
You can make the ring a gift during some holiday or a birthday. It might seem
bland at first, but personalizing it a little bit can make it more special.
Him: This seems too easy.
Her: Guys should definitely do a little more than just this marriage proposal
straight up. Perhaps combining it with other marriage proposal ideas would be a
good idea.

14. Propose during a favorite hobby or game.
This is a fairly broad marriage proposal idea, but you can propose during a
favorite game or hobby of yours (perhaps if you're on a softball league, have it
written on a ball or on a plate). The ideas are endless here!
Him: This would require a lot of personalization to make it special, and not
everyone would have an easy time with this proposal.
Her: If this marriage proposal idea was done the right way, this might be a good
one.

15. Propose with a message in a bottle.

You can write your marriage proposal in a bottle and have her find it. This could
be the classic bottle on a beach and you could point it out to her and she'd be
curious to open it and see what it says, or you could even make it simpler and
empty out a champagne bottle and have the message in there after a special
dinner.
Him: I like the beach idea if you lived near one or vacationed there, as I think it
would really be funny.
Her: It would definitely be funny to see a marriage proposal along a beach, but I
wouldn't be afraid to add more to this.

16. Have office/co-workers in on it (hers or yours).
There are several things you could do with this one. Not only could you have her
co-workers in on it, for example, by having them (or a boss) tell her she has to go
on a business trip or go somewhere and then you appear at her hotel or in her
hotel room (you could set it up with the hotel as well), but you could also do
several other things where you could incorporate her co-workers on it. If your
loved one was a firefighter, cop, etc., you could have even more fun incorporating
all of them in on it (or even if you have a friend that is a cop or firefighter, it would
be easy to create several jokes and turn it into a funny proposal if that's your
type).
Him: I like this idea, as it has endless possibilities and personalization, and it for
sure would be a funny story that you could tell others! Planning it would also be a
blast.
Her: This idea, if done right, would be a great one! But you'd have to be sure to
really plan it out and think of the most clever idea possible (maybe through a little
romance in on top of that).

17. In a plane, helicopter, or hot air balloon looking down at writing on the ground

asking her to marry you.
This one is pretty straight forward. Have a fun or romantic ride in the air and have
the writing down on the ground.
Him: Sounds fun, but getting the writing done might be hard!
Her: It would be funny to all of a sudden see a proposal written in the ground that
you weren't suspecting, but I'd agree that getting writing that big might be a bit
tough!

18. Have it written on a banner or in clouds on a plane.
This is one of the more classics: have the proposal message written in the clouds
or on a banner carried by a plane. Maybe have it so it can be seen while standing
in your "special place."
Him: Sounds like a classic one, but I'd try to add a bit more to it.
Her: If it was all pulled off, I'd agree that this would be a classic, but I'd also agree
that this would be great to have in addition to something else (like a romantic trip,
for instance).

19. Have it written in stones while underwater scuba diving or snorkeling.

This is fairly straight forward as well. You could align stones in a special
message where you know you two will be snorkeling or scuba diving.
Him: I'm thinking an exotic vacation would be a nice way to pull this one off!
Her: I'd agree with the vacation idea. It would be extra special if snorkeling or
scuba diving was something the two of you did a lot, as it would be more
personalized.

20. Have your special proposal message written on food.

With this marriage proposal idea, you could have your waiter/waitress bring out a
plate with your marriage proposal written on it. You could also do this on a cake
or lots of other ways.
Him: Personally, I don't really like this marriage proposal. Seems too simple.
Her: I'd also agree, but I'm sure there are clever ways to pull it off.

21. Have your marriage proposal on a computer.
You could make a custom screen saver or a fake virus (there are free downloads
where you can get a fake virus to write a personalized message) with your
message on it. Imagine the computer going into screen saver mode with your
message on it (or even a slideshow and then your message at the end), or a
virus threatening to infect your computer unless they said yes.
Him: This would be funny, but probably not too personal for some (great if the
two of you are techies or in this field).
Her: If either of you worked in a computer-related field, this could be really cute.
Otherwise, it might be a bit "random."

22. Have a scavenger hunt for puzzle pieces asking to marry you or a poem

asking it.
You could send your loved one on a scavenger hunt for puzzle pieces that would
piece together a marriage proposal (or even a poem asking it). You could even
hide each piece in a special place (who says it has to be around the house - you
can make a day out of it!).
Him: I like the part where you can hide pieces all over and make a day out of it. It
would be great to go over past memories that way while searching for the pieces.
Click this link to see a site that specializes in marriage proposal puzzles.
Her: I'd agree here. By itself, It might not be too personal, but when you add in
the scavenger hunt around places you two have a history, that makes it extra
sweet and special!

23. Send your loved ones flowers with a card and then wait outside either in a

limo or ready to go out to eat or on a short trip/vacation.
With this idea you can either have a proposal written on the card that the flowers
are with (and then at the end telling her to come outside), or you could have a
message saying to come out for a special surprise. Then when she meets you
outside, you could have a limo ready to take you out to a special dinner (or even
just go on a nice little trip together - even if just for a night or two).
Him: There are a ton of ways to personalize this, even though the basic idea
sounds like a classic.
Her: The limo isn't what would make it special, it would be the personalization
and how the guy puts it all together in the end.

24. Have the proposal on candy or a Hershey's kiss (on the wrapper, for

instance).
There are tons of places that make personalized candy and candy wrappers (just
check Ebay or do a Google search). You could incorporate this into your proposal
in a variety of ways (like in a Valentine's Day box of chocolates perhaps?).
Him: I'm sure this would be an easy way not too make it too obvious, but I would
definitely try to incorporate other ideas into this.
Her: I'd agree that it could be a nice way to end it, but I'd have something else
planned either before or after this in addition to it.

25. Have a video you already recorded saying everything you love about them
and then propose at the end of that (you could even pretend that the video is a
normal T.V show and not a video).
You could put together a special video with pictures or smaller videos of the two
of you and list all the reasons you love her and then at the very end of it, you
could propose to her. You could even trick her into taping one of her favorite
shows and watching it and have your "show" come on at commercial break as a
joke.
Him: Sounds clever, but might be hard to have a romantic setting in it (leaves
room for thought and personalization!).
Her: It would be very sweet if it was pulled off right.

26. Propose on something exciting / mildly dangerous (bungee jumping,
parachuting, roller coaster, rock climbing, rocky bridge, etc.).
It has long been known that even mildly dangerous things can get your blood
flowing, heighten your senses, get a feeling of attachment to your mate, and even
make you forget about anything you know that might be coming (like a proposal).
At the very least, this would be a very memorable moment, as you'd always
remember the fear you had followed by the excitement! You could not only
propose in the middle of whatever activity you choose, but you could also do
extras like have the message on the very bottom of the ground (if you were
bungie jumping or parachuting) or on the top of a special area if you were doing
something like rock climbing or hiking up somewhere (like a high up cliff).
Him: Sounds very exciting, and I'm sure you both would remember it.
Her: This sounds like a great way to have something the two of you would always
remember, and the conflicting feelings of fear and love would be a burst of
emotions that would be very memorable.

27. Create a DVD of memories and pictures and then propose at the end of it.
With this idea, you can create a DVD of pictures of the two of you. There are
several computer programs (for both PC and macs) that can do this really easily
(just drag and drop photos, and then select songs for the background music for a
slide show). Macs bought within the last few years or so come with "iMovie" and
"iDVD" for free, but there are several other programs out there (you could even
have a professional do it if you didn't have the software or the know-how). You
can be very creative with this one and customize it however you want. Then
when it's all over, you can save the DVD and it will be a great memory (not to
mention a great way to save old memories of the two of you)!
Him: If you have the software and the know-how, this is a great idea. Even just
for a gift, it would show a lot of love and care that went into it. If you aren't
technical savvy at all (I've made these myself, and they aren't that hard at all) and
have the money, you could also hire a professional to do it.
Her: This sounds like a great way to save memories! After the proposal, the
bride-to-be would probably love to show it off to her friends and family and the
guy would get a ton of credit and brownie points!

28. Have a marriage proposal message on a new puppy's / kitten's collar.
If you two are planning on getting a puppy or kitten together, this is a clever way
to propose. You could have a marriage proposal engraved on the collar (you can
do this at any engraving store or even machines at some stores that do this for a
few bucks). That way when she's surprised and excited for the new puppy/kitten,
she'll be even more surprised when she reads the collar to find out its name only
to find out that it's a proposal!
Him: Cute marriage proposal idea, but I'd only do it if the two of you were talking
about getting a pet.
Her: This would be a clever Christmas/Birthday gift. It for sure would be exciting,
but I'd also make sure that she wants a kitten or puppy first!

29. Have a marriage proposal message in a baby's hands on a note if you have a
kid together.
If the two of you have a kid together, especially a little one, you could have the
baby hold a little note for a special surprise/proposal.
Him: I don't like this marriage proposal idea a ton, but if it was relevant and you
could somehow have an inside joke with it, it might work.
Her: I'd opt for something more between the two of you, but it might work for
some people.

30. Have a special message or ring inside an Easter egg in an Easter basket.
This marriage proposal idea is fairly straight forward. If you plan on proposing
around Easter, it might be a cute idea to slip a proposal note (or even an
engagement ring) in a plastic Easter egg and put it in among other Easter eggs
with candy and the like. It for sure would be a shock!
Him: I like the ring in the egg proposal idea, but Easter might not be the best day
to propose for most people.
Her: Clever, but I don't think it would be the right mood for most people (unless
you met or something else happened around Easter, then great!).

31. Have a special message or ring inside a Christmas ornament or gift.
This is very similar to the previous proposal idea, but instead put the ring or
message inside a Christmas ornament or gift. Christmas time can already set
people in a cozy, romantic mood, so why not take advantage of it?!
Him: I like the feeling of Christmas (or that time of year for that matter), but I'd try
to incorporate this into more (perhaps the scavenger hunt marriage proposal idea
starting with a Christmas gift?).
Her: I'd agree that most people love this time of year, but I'd also agree that a
little more should be done to make it even more of a special marriage proposal.

32. Have a special message or ring inside a birthday gift or a balloon.
Here you can make her birthday even more special by hiding a ring in a gift or a
balloon (not too hard to do). You could also do something clever with balloons
like hide lots of little hints and messages in a bunch of them and have her pop
them!
Him: I'd try to personalize this marriage proposal a bit, but it doesn't sound too
hard to do.
Her: I love the balloon idea, especially the one with hints all over and popping a
bunch of them. I'd just be sure not to make it too plain or simple.

33. Have a special marriage proposal message or ring in a Valentine's Day
candy box.
This is a lot like the other previous ones, so I'm sure you get the picture. But with
this one, you can even find heart-shaped ring boxes or customized candy
wrappers (try Google or Ebay).
Him: Valentine's Day always seems to set the mood right, but then again, it is a
pretty typical day to propose...
Her: I like the many ways that this marriage proposal idea can be customized and
how it could so easily be personalized. It would be so cute to have a bunch of
sweet nothings written on customized candy only to eventually come across a
ring wrapped up in a candy wrapper!

34. Propose on a cruise and get the captain and crew involved.
Cruises are always great vacations if you have the money, and their captains and
crew are always willing to please their customers by going the extra mile -
especially for marriage proposals. You could get the captain to announce
something on the loudspeaker, or you could just tell the crew to see if they could
do any special accommodations. You could even rent a small boat to go near
shore and propose there and then have the crew set up something special back
on the ship for the two of you! The ideas are limitless here.
Him: If you had the extra money for a cruise, that would definitely set the scene!
Her: Just knowing that your man went the extra mile to set something like this up
would make you fall in love with him all over again!

35. Propose out on a public square and hire a guy to play "your" song or another
favorite song.
You could hire a guy (could even be someone who normally plays on a street
corner for cheap) to play your special song and make sure your loved one and
you "just happen" to be around at that time to set the mood right. A romantic
song under the moonlight might be a perfect setting for you to propose.
Him: Clever marriage proposal idea, and I bet you could easily find someone to
play your song for a $20 to $50 tip!
Her: With this proposal idea, the setting would be where you'd have to make sure
that it was a good one (under the moonlight, near a lake, etc.).

36. Write your marriage proposal on a frosted window.
This might only work for those of you living in a colder climate or during Winter,
but if you had a romantic evening planned and then ended it somehow with her
coming across a message on a window (doesn't even have to be at your home -
be creative!), it would definitely be a surprise.
Him: I can't really see how this one would be a good proposal idea unless you
had it at a perfect location.
Her: At home might be a little bland, but there's definitely room to be creative
here and make this marriage proposal idea not so plain.

37. Create a photo book of memories and ask her hand in marriage on the last
page.
If you aren't tech savvy with a DVD or a movie, you could simply try to put
together a special photo book of the two of you with past memories ... maybe
even throw in a few poems or something? Then at the very end, create a clever
page asking her for her hand in marriage and how she means the world to you.
Him: I prefer the DVD to this, but if I was less tech savvy, I would definitely
somehow incorporate this idea into a marriage proposal, as it's a great keepsake!
Her: Even if this wasn't for a proposal, a photo book of memories would be very
sweet of a guy to make! And don't hesitate to throw in the poems or sweet
nothings!

38. Have dozens of ring boxes with one really having a real ring in it and have
her search for it (you can have memories written on paper inside the other ring
boxes).
You could buy a bulk lot of ring boxes (try to make them unique - maybe get
heart-shaped or flower-shaped ring boxes) and hide special notes inside each of
them. Perhaps have it having a reason why you love her? Then have one of the
boxes contain the real engagement ring.
Him: I like the idea of putting little notes in each one, but wouldn't this be a bit
obvious?
Her: This would definitely make her know that a proposal is coming, but if she
already knows that, it would be a clever little thing to do!

39. Have a big scavenger hunt on vacation and propose at the end.
This is a much larger version of the scavenger hunt idea previously stated. With
this idea, you'll hide clues that will lead you two to the airport, certain cities, a
hotel, sites to see, and then finally to your proposal spot (make it special). This is
a clever one, as she will probably think that the vacation itself is the surprise and
not see it coming!
Him: Definitely a proposal for those who are already planning on a vacation or
who have the extra money!
Her: It would be such a shock to be led on a scavenger hunt and be surprised
with a vacation along the way (how exciting!). The proposal and ring would make
it even more exciting and definitely memorable.

40. Have your proposal written somewhere at a new house or apartment.
If the two of you are moving into a new house or an apartment, you could go to it
ahead of time and have a message hidden/written somewhere (perhaps have a
special message on it or poem). Then when the two of you go to it (make her
think it's your first time there too after you bought/rented it), you'll naturally look
around and she'll discover it. You could even write a special poem about how you
not only want to settle in your new place with her, but that you want to settle
down with her for the rest of your life too.
Him: Clever poem at the end, but this would probably only apply to a select few.
Her: The poem would be the way to make it extra special!

41. Have a proposal written in your own backyard, perhaps on a tree or in a
garden somewhere.
This idea would probably only be good if you just put in a tree or a garden (or if
you just moved), but having a message in a garden or written on a tree might be
an easy way for you always to remember the original proposal.
Him: I personally don't like this marriage proposal idea as much as the others,
but it might work for some.
Her: I'd agree, but it might be more relevant if the two of you just put in a fancy
garden or a gazebo or something else that the two of you worked on.

42. Propose at a gazebo late at night while dancing to music.
This is especially fun and memorable if it's raining! You can easily get the music
from a boom box or any other source like that. Several towns have their own
gazebos, and the scenery around them is often quite beautiful. A nice little set-up
(even a picnic or dinner already set up) might at a little more touch of romance.
Him: If you found a gazebo in the right area, this could be a very romantic
marriage proposal.
Her: I like the picnic/dinner proposal idea thrown in on top of this. I'd make sure to
be extra picky when it came to a public place versus a more secluded place (you
should probably know her well enough to know which one she'd like most).
43. Create a website for the two of you and have little links to reason why you
love her and have photos of the two of you.
People always do searches for themselves on Google or Yahoo, so why not
create a website with a proposal message and add tons of photos and sweet
nothings on it??? Then submit your website to the search engines and have your
loved one's name be the keyword (do searches on Google to do free search
engines). It would be quite the surprise for her, as you could jokingly enter your
name and search and I'm sure she'd want to do her name as well.
Him: This would be a really great marriage proposal idea if you had the tech
savvy to do all of this, but I can tell you from experience that it's very easy to
learn if you take the time to try (there are even several "do-it-yourself" websites
for free if you are absolutely clueless).
Her: This sounds like a very unique proposal idea and it could work out very
nicely, especially if either of you are in the computer-field or if either of you
browse the internet a lot (even if neither of you do, it's still a clever idea).

44. Bury a proposal (or ring if you're careful) in a metal box underground and
search for it with a metal detector.
With this one, you can make your own treasure hunt with a map and everything!
Or you could just do a random fun "search" of a beach or other area near you.
Even if you don't have a metal detector, you can buy cheap ones from $50 to
$100. A treasure hunt would sure be fun and memorable!
Him: Clever ... and fun! Not too much of a romantic marriage proposal, but a lot
of fun and you could probably make it romantic if you get creative enough!
Her: I would never have thought of this marriage proposal idea as being a good
idea, but come to think of it, I would probably love this personally!

45. Have your message written on the underside of a flying kite.
This one is fairly straight forward - have your proposal written on the underside of
a flying kite. The two of you can go out for a normal picnic at the park and when
you two have the kite fly off, she'll soon notice your surprise and you can be
down on your knees with the ring!
Him: A clever way to turn a romantic picnic into a proposal.
Her: A very creative way indeed, but I'd be sure to make the picnic extra special
(maybe an entire fun day at the beach or park?).

46. Have your proposal written on the bottom of a pool.
This might sound plain and simple at first, but be creative and see what you can
do! Maybe write it on the bottom of a new pool while you take your first dive in it?
Him: Sounds a bit bland compared to others, and probably not relevant to too
many people.
Her: I'd agree - unless there's something more to it or something that is just
between the two of you, this might be too bland. But then again, everyone is
different and maybe you could find a clever way to put this into your proposal
idea.

47. Go on a hike to a place with a loud echo and just shout it out.
The two of you could always go on a nice hike together and end up at a canyon
or other scenic place with an echo (or not, but the echo is an added bonus) and
just shout out your love and your marriage proposal. You could be next to her, or
shout it across from a distance to her. There are a lot of minor things you could
do to customize this one.
Him: This would be very good if the two of you were hikers or did that sort of
thing a lot. Otherwise, it might be a bit random.
Her: I'd agree with that, as I always think the best proposal is either something
extremely clever and unique or something personal and relevant to the two of
you.

48. Send a "care" package and ask it in the package.
This one might need a little explaining. A "care package," if you don't know, is a
little package filled with goodies (like her favorite soda, candy, etc.) and love
notes when your loved one is away (or even if she lives in the same town). You
could ask it in one of these care packages and then show up outside of her home
with the ring (or have the ring in the care package if you insure the package).
Him: This is a good idea if the two of you do things like care packages.
Otherwise, it might be out of the blue.
Her: I like the whole idea of a care package even outside of a marriage proposal.
If you aren't sending them already, get on it!

49. Rent a cage full of butterflies (or doves) and when she opens it, they'll all fly
out and she'll see your proposal in the cage.
21
You can easily find places to buy butterflies or rent doves (check wedding
sections or do a search on Yahoo or Google), and then adding a little message in
the cage and setting up a romantic day shouldn't be too difficult.
Him: This sounds almost like a princess marriage proposal. I think that some
women might like this, but some might like something more personal.
Her: I'd have to agree with this. If it was done right and you personalized the
entire day before this in a romantic outing, this could be a fairy tale ending if all
went well (but there is room for mistakes here!).
50. Plant flowers making the words "Will you marry me?" or "Marry me?" and wait
for them to grow.
This is pretty straight forward and would work well if you were planting a garden
or if you had a big open field. Simply plant the seeds (or flowers if you want to be
reassured that they'll grow and look right) in the shape of the letters and wait for
her to see it and bring up the weird "coincidence."
Him: Sounds like a hard marriage proposal idea to pull off, but this would be a
good way if you didn't have a specific date in mind to propose and just wanted to
see how long it took her to notice.
Her: I personally don't like this proposal idea (the seeds, at least), as you not only
have to make sure that it grows right, but she might not notice it when you want
her to.
51. Have a romantic walk through a local botanical garden or any other garden
place (by exotic flowers and waterfalls can be very romantic).
You could search around your area for a local botanical garden or other public
gardens (some are VERY beautiful) and pick out a nice place to propose there.
Him: This sounds like it might be a better marriage proposal idea if the two of you
went on one of your first dates there or if the place had a little more between the
two of you.
Her: Although it's a romantic setting, I'd try something a little more personal and
more of the "two of you" (which could be this for some people).
22
52. Write the proposal in a homemade stone and put it in a remote place (like the
other side of a waterfall or underwater or any scenic area).
Homemade cement/stone kits can be found at any hobby store for under $10,
and they're great to make a personalized message or proposal on (like "'your
name' and 'her name' 2006"). Finding the perfect location for it would be the hard
part. I'd try to find a place that either the two of you frequent (such as "your"
special place) or just a very beautiful area.
Him: I like this idea, as you could always go back to it.
Her: A homemade stone would be very special and memorable, but I'd be sure to
take enough time to pick the perfect place!
53. Propose in a shark cage with sharks nearby.
If the two of you have access to a tourist area near the ocean, you can probably
find a place that takes you out and puts you in a shark cage. Since her senses
will already be really high due to the sharks around, it might be the perfect time to
pop the question. You could even somehow have your message underneath
some bait (talk to the owners bringing you out ahead of time) so when the bait
falls off, she'll see it.
Him: Sounds a bit hard (or should I say a "bite" hard) to pull off, but sure sounds
like it might be scary and exciting.
Her: Not exactly romantic, but if the two of you did something like this when you
first met, it might be more relevant and fun way to pull it off. Sounds like a lot of
work and planning to make it just right.
54. Propose while rock climbing and have your ring out when you reach the top
(or as a joke suspend her in the air until she answers).
You could pick out a proposal spot on top of the cliff or wherever you are rock
climbing. If you are at more of a recreational place, you could suspend her in the
air until she answers as a joke as well.
23
Him: Proposing at the top of a cliff or mountain would be a great place, but I'd
imagine that only a select few could pull this off or even climb one!
Her: That's definitely a good idea (I don't really like the recreational place idea
with suspending her in the air, though) if the two of you do this often or if you are
even capable of climbing. If you aren't climbers, you could always hike up such a
place and propose at the top as well.
55. Have a pilot drop a box with a parachute with a note inside asking your loved
one's hand in marriage (or have a friend drop it from a tall building).
This one might be harder to pull off, but imagine going on a nice walk and all of a
sudden seeing a small box parachuting down to the ground - the two of you could
try chasing it only for her to eventually find a marriage proposal inside.
Him: If you have the resources and can pull it off, I like the idea of going for a
walk with this.
Her: This sounds like it might almost be harder than it's actually worth, but maybe
it works for some.
56. Ask while the two of you are in a glider plane flying (or even have it written in
a field if you want).
There are several places that charge a nominal (under $200) fee to take two
people up in a small glider plane. Most of these places even allow you to fly it by
yourself with the instructor next to you. You could propose in the plane and just
ask there, or you could have it written on a field below.
Him: If you can pull off having it written in a field, this would be the best. And trust
me, anyone can fly these planes - it's not just for experts.
Her: Flying a plane/glider would be really exciting, but even more exciting when
you fly over your own proposal message below!
57. Ask at the end of a corn maze (have owners set up a small table and
champagne).
24
With this idea, you and your loved one could go on a huge corn maze together
and you could have something set up at the end (a picnic perhaps?) and then at
the very end, you could propose and say something about going through life
together and finding your way together with each other just like the corn maze.
Him: It sounds like it could be a good idea, but I'd try to make the ending "extra"
special somehow - go all out with the picnic with champagne and the likes.
Her: Although this is a fun idea, I'd agree that the ending would have to be extra
special, or maybe even hide things throughout the maze related to the two of you
(either notes or little memories ... something extra special). With this last thing, it
would be a MUCH better idea and much more personalized and special.
58. Propose in a haunted house (the ones around Halloween) and have some of
the characters in on it.
With this idea, you could have some of the characters at a haunted house in on
your scheme (maybe give them a small tip for their help), and you could have
them "capture" your loved one and bring her to a separate room where you'd be
dressed up (be creative) and waiting for her. You could pretend to be Count
Dracula and forcing your bride's hand in marriage as a joke.
Him: Hah, not exactly the most romantic marriage proposal, but it might fit with
some personalities.
Her: I'd agree that this is definitely something that you'd have to be sure that it fit
the two of you. This would be a horrible marriage proposal idea for the wrong girl
but great for the right one.
59. Make a book about the two of you and ask on the last page or hint about it
(possibly saying that the next chapter depends on her or the rest of the book is to
describe the rest of your lives together).
This is somewhat straight forward. You can write your "story" with her down in an
actual book (you can buy a blank hardcover book from any hobby store for only a
few dollars) and give it to her as a way to go over memories together. Then at the
very end, leave a lot of the book blank and say that you were hoping the rest
would be left to tell the story of the rest of your lives together.
25
Him: This sounds like a very sweet thing to do, but I think that it would be very
easy to combine this one with several of the other marriage proposal ideas.
Her: I'd agree, this marriage proposal idea alone is an okay proposal idea, but
combined with some of these other marriage proposal ideas or with extra twists,
it could be a great one. A woman would love to have a guy take the time to write
down everything and his thoughts about her the entire time - it would sure be
good for a few laughs.
60. Propose at a sport stadium by having friends on the opposite end have letters
on their shirt or body asking your loved one to marry you.
This is a clever one for the sports fans and a great way to get friends in on it. You
could buy tickets for your friends and have them have letters on their shirts of
bodies asking your loved ones hand in marriage. You could also easily get this
announced during the game at half-time, as I'm sure everyone would love to see
it. This definitely isn't for the shy girl!
Him: I love this one if the two of you were into a sport.
Her: Just make sure that she's not too shy (you should know this by now), as this
would be a great and VERY memorable way to propose to someone. I bet the
two of you would even get on television, so be sure to have someone taping it if
it's on!
61. Make a fake lottery winning ticket (tape previous numbers) and say some
joke like if you two win, you'll have to get married, buy a new house, go on
vacation, etc. and then when she wins and finds out it's fake, be like "oh, want to
do it anyway" or say "I guess I'm already the luckiest guy around."
Him: I normally probably wouldn't like this marriage proposal idea, but something
about how you could personalize what you say to her and play this one off
actually makes me like it a lot.
Her: I'd agree, when I really think about this one, it sounds like a pretty easy
marriage proposal idea to pull off but it could be very romantic and memorable if
he says the right words. Maybe have a romantic day or dinner prior to that and
end it with this as a joke!
26
62. Have your proposal written in invisible ink right before going to a place with
ultraviolet lights (bowling alleys, nightclubs, etc.).
This is an idea if you want to surprise her with your proposal when she randomly
sees your message written on yourself or something else when the two of you go
to a nightclub, bowling alley, or any other place that might have ultraviolet lights.
Him: I'm not too sure if the places that have ultraviolet lights would be the best
places to propose for most people...
Her: I'd agree - there would definitely have to be something special about the
place for you to propose there.
63. Have your proposal written on boxers/underwear.
This one might be better for a woman proposing to a man (but it could still work
the other way around). You could have half of the message on the front and the
other half on the back or a woman could even use a bra to finish part of the
message. There are lots of places where you could get such a message
customized on either of these.
Him: I'd agree that this is definitely something that would probably work better for
a woman to do, and it would be very erotic!
Her: This sounds like a cute little idea for a woman to propose, but if I were her,
I'd try to also add more to it to make it special and personal (then again, I'm sure
the guy would be pleased enough seeing you with something like that on!).
64. Have your proposal shaved (like "marry me?") "down there" (for women) or
have it written on with chocolate and whip cream.
This is another one that's definitely more of one that a woman can do for
proposing to a guy. Although shaving down there might be a little hard to do, you
could even work something out with chocolate and whip cream spelling out the
message.
Him: Very erotic ... might not be too personal, but very erotic and sexy indeed
(definitely something only for some individuals over others).
27
Her: Cute idea and definitely a good way to get his attention. But as with the last
one, I'd do a little more in addition to this to make it extra special.
65. Have a proposal message set up at the end of an obstacle course (set one
up in a gym or written in foam or a ball pit).
This one might take a little work, as you could have little obstacles with little
messages hidden throughout an entire gym, for instance, and then have your
proposal at the very end.
Him: I think for the amount of work, some of the other ones might be better off
spending your time at. You'd also have to rent out the place probably.
Her: I'd agree that unless there's something special to a specific gym or obstacle
course, most people might like something else better.
66. Have the kids at a dance/musical/play do the proposal message for you.
This is especially good if you are a teacher or have kids together. You can easily
get all the kids involved (just speak to the teacher) and have them spell out a
proposal message or work it into the skit some other way.
Him: I'd personally prefer to do something a little more personal and between the
two of you, but this would be a great way to show your love off to everyone in the
audience if that was your personality.
Her: This would probably only work for a select few individuals, but I'm sure some
would love the idea.
67. Have kids in a classroom or school help with the proposal if your loved one is
a teacher or works there.
Here's one specifically for teachers and school workers. You could set something
up ahead of time and get all the kids to help you out with just about anything
(whether it's in the classroom or on a field trip). You'd have to talk to other
teachers/workers to help out, but I'm sure they'd be more than willing.
28
Him: I like this one better than the previous one, as you can do a lot more with it.
Her: I'm sure all the co-workers and other teachers would love to see something
like this happen, and it's always fun to get others involved in it. The kids will love
it too.
68. Go on a treasure hunt with a treasure map (hide clues or small gifts to keep
them guessing or maybe trick them by making what they think will be last a cruise
or a trip together).
You could devise a treasure hunt with clues and everything and lead her from
one clue to the next. You could have the ending part be either a proposal or a trip
where you'd propose to her on.
Him: This sounds similar to the metal detector idea, but you don't need the
equipment and can customize it a bit more. I like that.
Her: If done well, this could be a really memorable thing the two of you could do.
69. Have a bunch of small gifts in ring boxes or other small boxes for any giftgiving
occasion to keep them guessing and then at the end give them the real
one.
With this one, if your loved one suspects a proposal coming up during a birthday,
Christmas, etc., you can get a few gifts that look like they could be a ring (but
make them something else) to shoot down her ideas and then at the very end
bring out a real one.
Him: Sounds a bit too bland. I think a proposal should be more than just a gift,
but this might work for some.
Her: I'd agree with that, but if there was something else planned along with this, it
would make it a better idea.
70. Sell your marriage proposal on ebay and get her to bid on it as a joke (and
hope no one else bids higher!).
You could jokingly put a marriage proposal up on ebay and somehow let her
notice it and see if she bids on it.
29
Him: By itself, I'm not too sure if I like the idea, but if it got the attention of a lot of
people, it would make it more special and memorable.
Her: Better hope she bids on it! But for the most part, I'd agree that this would be
a risky one to do as it might not be as special as you think if things don't go
according to plan.
71. Write your proposal on a large cardboard or poster board on the back of a
boat while your loved one is tubing or water skiing.
This is another one that's pretty straight forward. If the two of you are out on a
boat and she's tubing or water skiing, you could propose to her while on the boat.
However, you could also do a two person tube and have a friend hold out the
proposal for the two of you as well.
Him: I like the idea of the two person tube, as she'd be right next to you during an
exciting moment, and the friends would be in on it too.
Her: I'd agree with the two person tube idea as well. However, if she was water
skiing by herself, you could always throw her off if she says no (just kidding...).
72. Write the proposal on a sailboat sail while you are out (can be on different
sailboats).
If the two of you sailboat a lot, this one might be a good idea for you. You could
unravel a sail or message asking for her hand in marriage on a lake or the seas.
Him: This would probably only be good if the two of you sailed a lot or if you met
while sailing or something like that.
Her: I'd completely agree, as otherwise it might be a bit too random.
73. Write it on an "official" license plate (on a new car).
With this one, you could write something like "Mrry Me" or the like on a license
plate on a new car the two of you got or if it's a gift to her.
30
Him: I don't really like this one, as I don't see what makes it too special or
personal.
Her: Unless it's a car that the two of you always talked about or if there's more to
it, I'd personally stay away from this one (besides, you wouldn't want to be driving
around with that plate for a few years).
74. Bake cookies in the shape of "marry me?"
This one might be more relevant if the two of you bake a lot. You could bake
cookies, or pretty much anything, in the shape of your proposal and wait for them
to come out (and hope it comes out right).
Him: In most cases I can't see this being too personal or special as some of the
other marriage proposal ideas.
Her: I also agree here as well, but it might be relevant or more special if you are
baking these cookies for something else like a wedding or what not and then all
of a sudden you're surprised with your own proposal.
75. Go for a nice walk (gardens) then toss a coin in the wishing well and when
she asks what you wished for, say "we'll see if it comes true" and ask her to
marry you there.
This one is explained fairly well above. The two of you could go for a walk
through a nice place with a wishing well or other pond or fountain and you'd make
your wish there and wait for her to ask what it was.
Him: If the setting was really beautiful, I'd like this marriage proposal idea.
Otherwise, I'm not too sure.
Her: Try to maybe find some city gardens or something that looks romantic and
make your marriage proposal happen there if you go with this one.
76. Stay up late at night under the stars (perhaps a meteor shower night?) and
wait for you both to see a shooting star and then say "well, let's see if my wish
comes true."
31
This is very similar to the above proposal idea, but you could even do things like
set up a romantic dinner outside with candles and the like and wait for the meteor
shower to happen.
Him: Sounds like this marriage proposal idea would sure set the mood right.
Her: The candlelight dinner outside would be a very romantic touch. I kind of like
this marriage proposal idea actually...
77. Have a diver at an underwater observatory hold up a note to a glass window
asking the question while you look on.
There are lots of underwater observatories/aquariums that you could go to, and
I'm sure you could get a diver/worker to help you out here and hold up a note
asking your loved one to marry you (be sure to give him/her a tip for doing this,
though). She definitely wouldn't see it coming!
Him: I bet this marriage proposal idea actually wouldn't be too hard to pull off,
and it would definitely get the attention of the crowd!
Her: I'm sure everyone around you would look onto the two of you with
excitement and wait to see what she says. Besides that, this is a pretty clever
idea all by itself!
78. Talk to the dolphin/whale instructors at a place like seaworld and have your
girlfriend be selected to play with the dolphins and right after, pop the question in
front of everyone (the instructor could get the dolphins to nod yes and splash the
two of you).
That pretty much says it all. It would take a lot of planning and talking to others to
do, but I'm sure a place would love the extra attention of this and be willing to
help.
Him: If she's not too shy, this would definitely be a VERY memorable marriage
proposal and a lot of fun for the both of you at the same time.
Her: Definitely for more of the fun-at-heart and not the really shy type, but the two
of you would talk about this for years to come!
79. Get a news radio ad to ask your marriage proposal if you know she's listening
(have her friend call to make sure) and go over all the reasons why you love her.
32
If you had the money, you could buy a radio station ad and pop the question
there with all the reasons why you love her. Just be sure that you make
absolutely sure that she's listening. You might even have to get one of her friends
to help you out there to make sure.
Him: I like some of the other marriage proposal ideas more, but I'm sure this one
would surprise her as well.
Her: I'd agree that this proposal idea just doesn't get me as much as some of the
others, but that doesn't mean that it wouldn't be perfect for another girl.
80. Go to a hotel (talk to manager first) and have the manager say "newly
engaged couples get a free upgrade to our suite or deluxe" and then say, "well, in
that case, will you marry me?"
This one is already explained pretty well. It's a cute way to pop the question, and
you can always throw a party at the hotel later (invite friends and relatives and
throw an engagement party by renting out a ballroom, banquet, or party room
there).
Him: I like the idea of having others over for an engagement party right then and
there - probably a total shocker to her (better be sure she says yes, though).
Her: Some girls would love this marriage proposal idea with all the attention of
having others over, but you should hopefully know if your loved one is one of
them.
81. At a place like Medieval Times (knights joust and put on a show for people
eating at their restaurant) or another dinner show, ask the workers ahead of time
if they can help you out anyway with your marriage proposal idea and see what
they can do.
With this marriage proposal idea, you could eat at a place like Medieval Times
and work it out with the workers so that perhaps your girlfriend is called down to
be the princess or queen (which they usually do at most shows) and then see if
you can be waiting for her somewhere or be her "king" or "knight." The
possibilities are endless here.
33
Him: If the two of you were into that sort of thing, this would be a great marriage
proposal idea and a great way to have an audience!
Her: This would definitely be better for some women versus others, but it could
be very exciting and memorable for some.
82. Propose at Disney World and get the characters involved.
Disney World/Land has probably had its fair share of proposals and marriages
there, but you could get the characters to help you out and whisk your loved one
away to a place where you'd be waiting for her. You could also see if they'd let
her in on a parade and propose to her there (or be in it yourself as a surprise), or
you could even propose during the fireworks. This is a classic one with a lot of
possibilities.
Him: Disney Land can be a classic marriage proposal idea, but just be sure to
have it extra unique!
Her: This is another one that some women would adore while others might not.
Imagine having Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse take you away for a surprise!
I've also heard that Disney World/Land can be very helpful with planning
marriage proposals.
83. Propose at a theme park on top of a rollercoaster or other exciting ride.
There are tons of fun rides that you could cleverly work a proposal into. Some
rides even take pictures of their riders at certain points and you could time your
proposal then to get a "live action" shot later. If you two were vacationing
together, this might be a good place to propose.
Him: Probably more for the younger audience than the older ones, but I like this
idea if it was done right and part of a vacation perhaps.
Her: A younger audience? Anyone can have fun with this one! It would even be
more exciting for an older couple to relive the moments I think.
84. Ask right before skydiving (jump right then).
34
This is similar to a prior one, but here you'd ask your loved one right before
skydiving and then wait to hear her answer as the two of you are falling to the
earth below. It would make for some great pictures to see it all happening in the
air if you had a friend along (just make sure to not have the ring out while you're
actually falling in the air).
Him: Definitely more for those who would be up to such a thing, but a clever idea
if the two of you always wanted to go skydiving together.
Her: I'd agree with that 100%. It would be perfect if the two of you always talked
about going and finally did. You could maybe even have a picnic with champagne
set up below?
85. In a small plane, you could make the pilot pretend to crash and then ask your
girlfriend to marry you (make it seem like a wish), then have the pilot level off and
say "thought that would work."
If you were able to pull this one off, this might be an exciting and memorable idea
for you to try. It would be easier if you had a friend who was a pilot and would be
willing to do this one for you.
Him: It would definitely be exciting, and even better if it seemed real.
Her: This would work, but I'd definitely have something set up before or after it to
add more to it all. Just be sure she wouldn't get too scared!
86. Have a chimpanzee or other animal at the zoo hold up a sign that asks your
marriage proposal (talk to the zookeeper, of course).
If you have a nice enough zookeeper or worker at your local zoo, you could try to
pull something off by having the animals in on it, so to speak. How exciting would
it be to see a chimp holding up a sign and then the two of you looking closely at it
to see that it's a proposal?!
Him: It would definitely all depend on the type of zookeeper, as this could really
be hard to pull off.
35
Her: For the fact that it might be hard to do, there are probably other ideas that
might be better (unless the zoo was your first date or if there was something
more to it).
87. Put an ad in the paper for a job opening describing your girlfriend and
suggest it to her. Then when she shows up say that that job is filled but a fiance
position just opened up (you could also get a friend in on it).
This about says it all. You could put an ad in the paper that completely describes
the perfect position for her, and then get one of her friends in on it to make sure
she goes in for the interview. Just make sure that others don't try to show up for
an interview!
Him: This isn't one of my favorite marriage proposal ideas, but in the right
situations and with the right people, I could see this one being good.
Her: It's clever, but I'd try to have something set up at the interview to make it
extra special ... be creative!
88. Put signs up on the side of the road leading the way to a special place to
propose.
With this proposal idea, you could pick out a special place to propose and along
the way on your little road trip, you could have signs (either rented from a
restaurant or just smaller ones put in the dirt like the garage sale signs) hinting at
something happening (your choice if you want to make it more or less obvious).
Then towards the end of your journey, have a final sign with both of your names
on it and the date and when she's all confused, propose to her at your spot.
Him: Sounds clever, but you'd have to find a pretty good spot to make it really
special.
Her: I'd agree that it all depends on what type of a place you can find. An extra
long road trip would be something really hard to pull this off on as well.
89. Rent out a dinner boat for an evening dinner and ask then.
36
With this marriage proposal idea, you could rent out an entire dinner boat just for
the two of you (or for family and friends) and ask for her hand in marriage during
the sunset.
Him: I like how this proposal idea can be either private or open with lots of friends
and relatives, so it should work with most women either way.
Her: The setting would definitely be romantic, and I think that this is a good one
to incorporate into your proposal somehow if you like this one.
90. Buy a toy ring from a quarter machine and jokingly ask her to marry you.
Then afterwards ask if she'd like that ring replaced with a better one.
I think this about explains it all. You could find a toy/candy machine with rings in it
(or even place a toy one on the bottom slot ahead of time) and jokingly ask her to
marry you and then later see if she'd like to replace it with a better one. You could
even go back to the quarter machine and put another quarter in to try to get a
better one and jokingly pull out the real ring (hide it in your hand). She'll be quite
surprised!
Him: I kind of like how this idea is really clever and cute, but I think that a little
more should be done to make the day extra special.
Her: If you could somehow end a nice dinner date or something else this way, it
would make it a lot better of an idea.
91. Propose at another wedding and joke about "since everyone is already
here..."
If your future fiance loved audiences and you know that she would love the
proposal to be in front of family and friends, you could propose to her at another
wedding since everyone is already in the mood and it should already be pretty
romantic.
Him: This is definitely for those women who would love the extra attention.
Her: Not too personal or unique, but it might work for some. I'd also be careful not
to draw the attention away from the current bride and groom (or make sure
they're okay with it first).
37
92. Propose on a passenger airplane - have the captain ask on the loudspeaker
and then have the stewardesses bring the ring out.
While the two of you are heading off for a vacation or a nice getaway on a plane,
you could speak to the captain ahead of time and make some type of an
announcement (this is where you can be creative) for your engagement and have
the stewardesses bring out your ring and maybe some champagne.
Him: Seems a bit too simple and not special enough for most people. However, I
can see how one could be creative with this proposal idea and turn it into a very
good marriage proposal idea.
Her: Unless there's something unique to this idea for the two of you, I'd stick to
some of the other marriage proposal ideas. Although you could say something
about how you wanted to take her on this special trip to celebrate your recent
engagement and then have the marriage proposal happen then while she's still
confused.
93. Ask your marriage proposal right before bungee jumping side by side.
This marriage proposal idea is similar to some of the previous proposal ideas
with proposing during exciting events. You could go to a theme park with a
bungee jumping ride and ask her right then before the two of you jump. Then wait
for her answer in the air.
Him: Again, I'm not too into this marriage proposal idea unless more was done to
it.
Her: This would be a better marriage proposal idea if the two of you always
talked about doing this together, or if you had other things planned alongside this
one.
94. Get "volunteered" at a circus or other big event and publicly ask in front of
everyone.
38
This one is more for those who love an audience and attention. You could speak
to the workers ahead of time and see if the two of you could get in on something
exciting together and then ask for her hand in marriage in front of everyone.
Him: This could definitely be exciting, but I'd be sure to try to get the workers to
let the two of you do something really exciting together and unique.
Her: I'd agree with this one - it's all about what you can get them to allow the two
of you to do, as that would make it even more exciting and memorable.
95. Have several stores/restaurants say "marry me?" or "marry me 'name'" in
town and wait for her to catch on.
With this marriage proposal idea, you could try to get as many restaurants and
stores as possible in town have their signs asking her hand in marriage and wait
for her to catch onto something being up.
Him: Although it would be exciting to see her slowly catch on, it doesn't sound as
fun as other ideas, and there's always the possbility that this marriage proposal
idea might not work at all.
Her: I'd agree that for the effort (it might be hard to get more than one or two
stores/restaurants in on it), some other marriage proposal ideas sound better to
me.
96. Ask her to marry you while in a photo booth while taking a picture.
This would be a great way to capture her reaction on camera! The two of you
could plan a fun day together at a theme park or some other amusement park
and then at the end take your picture together and ask there.
Him: I'd normally say this marriage proposal idea sounds too simple, but when I
really think about it, this could be a very memorable marriage proposal,
especially since you'd always have the pictures to look at later.
Her: I love the picture idea, as there's nothing like capturing this in the moment. I
bet hardly anyone has an actual picture or footage of their loved one's reaction
when they were asked, and it's something that you can always look back on. This
39
could be a great way to eventually pop the marriage proposal question after
doing other ideas as well.
97. Buy a candy sucker ring and jokingly propose, and then ask if she'd like a
nicer, less sticky one.
This is similar to the toy ring marriage proposal idea, except it's with a candy
sucker ring (some are known are ring pops). This is definitely one where by itself
it's not much, but if you add other ideas to it, it could be a very funny way to pull
off a marriage proposal.
Him: I'd agree that it's not much by itself (other than a cute joke), but if you had a
nice day or evening planned prior to that, it could be a very funny and even
romantic way to do your marriage proposal idea.
Her: Maybe have the ring pop be a gift to her all wrapped up in a normal ring box
and the like?! She'd be surprised thinking it's a real ring but then probably laugh
when she sees it's just a candy one only to be shocked again when you pop out
the real one. Now that would be a clever marriage proposal idea!
98. Have your proposal message written with fireworks.
There are lots of firework companies that make custom fireworks and could
easily do something to have your proposal written out (the letters could have
twirling flames or sparks or pretty much whatever you want). You could even set
up a tiny firework show for a birthday or some other event. These firework
displays are very reasonable too. An entire 10 minute show you can get for
probably $1,000, but just the sparkling or flaming sign asking her to marry you
might only cost a couple hundred.
Him: If someone had the money, I like the whole firework display idea. You could
even plan a romantic evening with just the two of you and then have a private
firework show just for the heck of it and wait for her to see your proposal.
Her: I kind of like this idea, especially when you could do an entire show for not
too much money. Either with friends and family would be a blast.
99. Have your proposal written in chalk on the driveway when she leaves and
have a special getaway planned right then.
40
With this marriage proposal idea, you could have your marriage proposal or any
other message written in chalk on the driveway (or anywhere else) and instead of
her leaving for work, you can surprise her with a little getaway for just the two of
you.
Him: It seems a bit risky if she misses your sign, and if you try pointing it out to
her, it might take away from the surprise and fun.
Her: I think it's a bit too risky if she misses it, so I'd stick to another idea unless
you find a way to make it work better.
100. Ask your proposal message in alphabet cereal or other alphabet food.
This one might seem a little plain and simple, but some people might laugh at a
proposal written out in cereal or soup. Imagine your girlfriend saying, "hun, that's
odd, my soup says 'marry me'" and then waiting for her to catch on.
Him: Cute, but I'd try to do more with it.
Her: In most cases with this, you probably wouldn't be dressed up or in any type
of a romantic mood, so I'd be careful with this one (it would make for a cute story,
though).
101. Make a bet with her on something and say that if you win, she has to give
you anything you want (she'll probably think it's sexual at first). Then after you
win (somehow make sure you don't lose this one), ask her to marry you.
Here you can think of some type of a bet (be extra creative) and say that she has
to do anything you want if you win. Then after you guarantee yourself a win and
actually win, you can say something like "well, all I really want is to spend the rest
of my life with you" and then totally shock her.
Him: Clever marriage proposal idea, but this one could make or break a perfect
marriage proposal depending upon how it was set up or what you were betting
over.
Her: I'd agree that you'd have to really think hard about what you could do here,
but that this could be a good one if done well.
41
102. Fly your proposal message on the back of a remote control plane.
If you don't have the budget (like many of us) to afford a real plane with a banner
flying behind it, you could always jokingly buy a remote control plane (cheap
ones are between $20 and $40 at any Target or Walmart store) and make your
own banner. You could even go to your special place together and have a friend
fly the plane for you as you point it out to her, or you could figure out a way to fly
it yourself and surprise her that way too.
Him: A clever way to possibly earn more points, and more laughs, than even if
you got a real plane to do that! The hard part would be finding the right time and
place.
Her: It would sure bring her a lot of laughs if you pulled this marriage proposal
idea off right. If the two of you were the right kind of couple, she would find this
marriage proposal not only hilarious, but probably really cute. I think it would be a
great proposal idea if you found a way to have this flying around after a romantic
day and after settling down at an evening picnic somewhere.
103. Go on a special horse and carriage ride.
This is a classic one that is often overlooked. A nice horse and carriage ride,
which you can easily find in a phone book or in many cities, to a romantic spot
can be a very memorable thing to do. You could even make it into a fairytale
setting or visit a few places that the two of you had memories at. Visiting your
"special" place along this journey would be another great way to propose with
this.
Him: I don't like a horse and carriage ride all by itself, but if you make it extra
special by making it more personal and going by special locations that the two of
you have memories in, this can be an excellent idea.
Her: I would have to agree with the above statement - you still want to make it
personal and not just any old horse and carriage ride. A fairytale setting would
also be a great thing to try for some women. You could even propose at a spot
ahead of time and have a horse and carriage waiting to take you to a hotel room
you rented for the night.
42
104. Name a star after her or the two of you at a special location of yours for your
marriage proposal.
This is a great marriage proposal idea to combine with any proposal idea out
there. There are several sites out there (do a search for "name a star") where you
can purchase your own star and have it be named after you or anything else (but
you don't even have to have it really "official" if you don't want - it can just be
between the two of you and you can save $30 to $50). Once you have your
marriage proposal plan and end up at your special proposal spot, have a specific
star either pointed out or written down on a map chart so the two of you can find
it. She'll be confused as to what you're doing, but that's part of the fun. Then say
some sweet words about how you wanted that star to always represent the two of
you and how it will always mark the spot that you proposed to her (before you
propose, of course, so this will be a shock to her). Your sweet words can be
about how you want the internal flame to symbolize your love for her and how
warm and special she makes you feel (be creative), or how you wanted
something that the two of you could always look up and see if you ever missed
one another. Then be down on one knee with the ring right before she's done
looking through a pair of binoculars or a telescope. The star will always be
something that the two of you can view either from your special spot or another,
and if you purchase an official one (which you'll probably need a telescope to see
anyway), you can have a picture or star chart framed somewhere at your home.
Him: This marriage proposal idea is very customizable and would be easy to
combine with tons of other marriage proposal ideas. It's definitely something
where a little planning can go a long way.
Her: I think it would be a blast to try to find your "special" star by using a star
chart. You could even give her this as a gift and then later at your special spot
say that you wanted it to always be seen over the spot where you proposed to
her (to surprise her).
Be Unique and Creative and make it Personal!
The take home message here is plain and simple. Remember that adding parts
of any of these marriage proposal ideas together or with other marriage proposal
ideas can truly make for an amazinDaniel Levy Inc.

Marriage Proposal Ideas

Marriage Proposal Ideas
However, I would
personally opt to try to personalize it somehow for her to make it even more
special.

Marriage Proposal Ideas

Marriage Proposal Ideas
5
9. Propose at a movie theatre.
6
You can make a special slideshow at pay to have it shown after a movie to
surprise her.
You'd make it extra special by reserving
a limo for the night before and afterwards.
11. Propose at a party/holiday in front of guests.
This is straight forward - propose in front of a group of friends, family, or guests at
some type of gathering. This is definitely more for the woman who likes attention
and not too shy of others.
Him: Sounds like an okay idea if you have the right person, and you can
celebrate afterwards with everyone!
Her: Definitely something that is only right for some women, but hopefully you
know her enough by now to know if she'd like this.
12. Have rose petals, or candles, leading on a path to a proposal site.
7
8
9
10
11
25. Have a video you already recorded saying everything you love about them
and then propose at the end of that (you could even pretend that the video is a
normal tv show and not a video).
26. Propose on something exciting / mildly dangerous (bungee jumping,
parachuting, rollercoaster, rock climbing, rocky bridge, etc.).
12
(just drag and drop photos, and then select songs for the background music for a
slideshow).
13
14
15
16
Him: I like the idea of putting little notes in each one, but wouldn't this be a bit
obvious?
17
18
Him: I personally don't like this marriage proposal idea as much as the others,
but it might work for some.
Her: I'd agree, but it might be more relevant if the two of you just put in a fancy
garden or a gazebo or something else that the two of you worked on.
42. Propose at a gazebo late at night while dancing to music.
This is especially fun and memorable if it's raining! You can easily get the music
from a boombox or any other source like that.
19
20
Remember that adding parts
of any of these marriage proposal ideas together or with other marriage proposal
ideas can truly make for an amazing marriage proposal. Take some time to sit
down and just think about what she'd (or he'd) like the most and what the two of
you would most remember 10, 20, or even 50 years from now!g marriage proposal. Take some time to sit
down and just think about what she'd (or he'd) like the most and what the two of
you would most remember 10, 20, or even 50 years from now!
